Tree Management for Schools
-
Yes, schools absolutely need tree surveys. Under the Occupiers' Liability Acts and the Health & Safety at Work Act, schools have a strict legal duty of care to ensure their grounds are safe for pupils, staff, and visitors. Regular inspections by qualified arboriculturists protect against structural failures, falling branches, and disease.
-
Professional tree surveys are usually recommended every 1 to 3 years, depending on the age and condition of the trees. More frequent checks (or inspections after severe storms) are expected in high-use zones like playgrounds, car parks, and footpaths.

Schools have a strict "duty of care" to ensure their grounds are reasonably safe for pupils, staff, and visitors. Under UK legislation—primarily the Occupiers' Liability Act 1957 and the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974—schools must proactively identify, assess, and manage any foreseeable risks posed by trees.

A tree survey at your school will include a visit from an Arboricultural Professional, who will map and assess all trees on site from a risk management perspective. A comprehensive report will follow the visit, mapping tree locations, size, description and overall condition. Any recommendations of work from a risk perspective will be outlined within the report, with a recommended timescale depending on the urgency of work.

We offer flexible pricing based on the number of trees on site and the needs of each individual client. As a rough guide, a school tree survey starts at around £295 + VAT for smaller, usually primary school locations. This is dependant on the estimated number of trees and complexity of the survey.
